New beginnings was the appropriate theme for this first meeting of the Goldmine Toastmasters at their new location: Connect Christian Church. Presiding officer Matthew Charity called the meeting to order, followed by the thought of the day: The nicest thing about the future: it always start tomorrow.
Toastmaster Sonny Tolbert welcomed members to explain their assigned roles. Phyllis Kombol tickled our funny bones as Jokemaster. Grammarian John Shepherd defined and explained the usage of the word of the day (URBANE). Ah Bell/Ballot Counter Janice Silver kept track of crutch words and sounds such as, "Uh and um" from anyone who speaks during the meeting, and Sam Mullis, our Timer, made sure the meeting started and ended in a timely manner.
Table Topics Master Matthew Charity gave four members the opportunity to think quickly and respond to a variety of questions. Jay Johnson was asked at what stage of his life did he have a new beginning. He responded that every day was a new beginning. The next question was "If he had two things to fix in the world, what would it be?" John Shepherd said he would fix the addictions of the world. Janice Silver's New Year resolution was the start of each day is a new year. Joyce Preston was put on the hot seat when ask what she thought about climate control and global warming.
Prepared speakers were Phyllis Kombol and Dana Michelle. Phyllis spoke from the CC Manual, Project 6, Vocal Variety. Her speech was entitled: "What Do We tell Our Sons?"
"Persuade with Power" was Dana's objective with her speech entitled: "Winners Make Adjustments, Not Excuses."
General Evaluator Serena Edwards introduced the evaluators for the meeting. Evaluating Phyllis Kombol's speech was Jerry Weikle and Gerry Fenner evaluated Dana Michelle's speech.
John Shepherd gave the grammarian report, picking out good and bad uses of grammar. Serena Edwards gave her overall evaluation of the meeting, citing areas we do well, as well as areas we can improve.

Business: Matthew gave the news that Georgia Carlton resigned as VP of Public Relations. John Shepherd nominated Dana Michelle to be the new VP of Public Relations. She accepted.
Awards were as follows: Best Table Topic speech: Jay Johnson. Best Speaker: Phyllis Kombol. Best Evaluator: Jerry Weikle. And the "Ah" stick went to Sonny Tolbert.
