Oct.11, 2014 Goldmine met at All Saints’ Episcopal Church’s multipurpose room as we were on hiatus (our word of the day, presented by our Grammarian Serena) from our usual location because of another event at the Rotary Hall. Appropriately, Jerry and Matthew both ended up on their knees, since they had a table instead of a lectern. It was an intensely fun group who welcomed our newest member, Janice.
Laura was our Toastmaster of the day, and kept us thinking about Fall Scenery, so Jerry’s Table Topics questions were all about Fall Foliage. Serena could not pick a single favorite fall leaf color, but won Best Table Topic! Joyce would’ve sent her hubby out to deal with a neighbor who blew all his leaves onto her lawn, Laura said it would not be hard at all to miss fall colors if she had a work assignment in Hawaii, and Phyl considered the possibility of making her 250 bags of leaves into an economic boon.
Matthew’s Best Evaluator Joyce had to pick one of 5 topics he’d identified as possible speech topics for his project on “impromptu speaking, so he accepted he challenge of telling us about the benefits of volunteering.
Even though our timer Serena noted that both Matthew and Phyl went over time, Phyl received the Best Speaker award from Gerry, by presenting an Ice Breaker from her 3rd CC (evaluated by John), telling about how a recent book had her contemplating Roads not Taken.
We congratulated Joyce on winning the Division Humorous Speech contest, and noted that Steve Medlin (former Goldmine member) won the evaluation contest.
See you all at the Rotary Hall this Saturday, as Goldmine's meeting is followed by a free CPR event taught by local firefighters......This week's blogger, Phyllis Kombol
