Greetings Goldminers! We had a wonderful time at the Contest! Steven (our weekly guest) brought chocolate chip cookies to sweeten things up a bit! Matthew graciously served as our Chief Judge. Al Minter gave a warm welcome as Sergeant At Arms, before leading us in The Pledge of Allegiance, and introducing our Contest Master; (who did a beautiful job) Glenda Edwards. For our Humorous Contest, we had the one and only (literally) Joyce Preston, with a speech titled, “It’s Time.” Joyce engaged us with humor as she spoke about having parking spaces for menopausal women! Well, you have my vote!
There were three wonderful contestants for the Evaluation Contest; Thomas Kombol, Joyce Preston, and Jerry Weikle. In the end, we have to say congratulations to Joyce and Jerry for first and second place. We say a job well done to all of our contestants for giving very thorough and insightful evaluations. Tim Edwards served as the target speaker, as he gave a very interesting and engaging speech titled “Camping is Fun!” He shared it in such a way, that we could imagine being right there, in the midst of all the action! Our humble and seasoned judges were; John Shepherd, Al Minter, and Sam Mullis—joined by the lovely Serena Edwards and Laura Levin representing the ladies on the panel! Laura is our latest addition to our Goldmine family, who died to who she was (Hal) to become who she is now…welcome Laura!
Making sure everything stayed on schedule in a timely manner, was our terrific timers—Gerry Fenner and Georgia Carlton, with Dana Mich’elle and Laura Levin as our ballot counters…Thank you ladies!
Sonny Tolbert was scheduled to join us in the humorous contest, but the flu held him hostage! You can’t keep a good Toastmaster down, so we’ll look to see you, Sonny, at the next meeting! We’re thankful for a safe return for Phyllis, and a Happy Birthday shout out with many blessings, to Ms. Gerry Fenner (September 16, 2014)! To all of you who were not able to join us; know that you were missed!
Congratulations to Joyce for placing first in the humorous and evaluation contests. Congratulations to Joyce and Jerry for moving on to the Area 13 Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contests to represent Goldmine on Saturday, September 20, 2014. Again, congratulations to ALL of our contestants for a job well done!
Peace and Blessings,
Disclaimer: There was a mix-up Saturday and I (Dana Mich’elle) was inaccurately congratulated as Contest Chair. I believe in giving credit where credit is due, but I cannot in good faith take credit for this. Hats off to everyone for helping making the contest a success!
